M.E.C.C.A. is an acronym that stands for: Mishicot Environmental Change Curriculum Area.  It is a trail that surrounds the Mishicot O.H. Schultz Elementary School, as well as the Mishicot School District track and football field.  The trail was originally used for an educational tool and recreational area. However, over the years it has been neglected.  Therefore, it is in desperate need of maintenance to return the trail to its former glory.

Currently, we are working on year one projects by removing invasive species including the following: honeysuckle, buck thorn, and garlic mustard.  So far, the majority of the honeysuckle has been removed and treated to ensure it will not grow back.  Additionally, the buck thorn and garlic mustard is beginning to bloom so volunteers can identify the species and remove them.

In the end, working on the trail will:
  • Develop and rejuvenate a sense of passion in students that can help the beauty and habitat of our community trail.
  • Directly tie community service and classroom curriculum seamlessly.
  • Help students learn leadership qualities by managing specific restoration and planning activities.
